NY State has decided to no longer subsidize Healthy NY (EPO/HMO) regular plan options for all health insurance carriers in New York including GHI, Oxford, and Empire BCBS. This change will begin starting with all January 1st 2012 enrollments.

What this means is, every NY health insurance carrier will no longer be selling HNY’s EPO/HMO regular plan options. Only the HNY EPO/HMO High Deductible Health Plan options (both with and without Rx) will be available.

The good news here is the HNY High Deductible Plan options are HSA-qualified. All subscribers enrolled in the HDHP plans can take advantage of much lower premiums via an HSA account, which can be opened at any bank of their choosing.

Subscribers who currently have a HNY (EPO/HMO) regular plan option can keep their plans and renew it as long as they want to and/or qualify. They will be grandfathered.
