Individuals looking to enroll in NY exchange-based health insurance on October 1st 2013 will be without licensed insurance producer support as per a recent webinar held by NYStateOfHealth. The delay comes as no surprise as many US states have announced they are having trouble making the 10/1 deadline for exchange launch.

While the NY health insurance exchange has already provided a certification program for navigators (unlicensed exchange assistors that will not be able to make plan recommendations for healthcare consumers), no certification program for licensed insurance producers is available as of yet, and no firm date has been announced by the exchange as to when it will be available. Thus, assuming the NY exchange website goes live on schedule, one will have to rely on unlicensed navigators to get enrollment assistance…at least for the short term.

We will provide an update regarding the availability of licensed insurance exchange producers once it has been made available by NYS. For any other questions regarding securing individual health insurance coverage, contact an insurance broker.
