According to an article published today by Newsday, Stony Brook University Hospital (SBU) will begin participating in Health Republic’s MagnaCare network. This marks the first NY on-exchange plan that will be available to Long Island residents needing access to SBU, but who also need subsidy assistance to secure individual health insurance. While MagnaCare also leases its network out to Oscar Insurance Corp, it is unclear right now whether SBU intends to participate with that insurer.

SBU spokesperson, Lauren Sheprow, also went onto say that the state university hospital is in talks with five other downstate NY insurer’s. While she did not disclose which on-exchange insurers they are in talks with, the remaining on-exchange insurer’s that are available to Long Islander’s include:

-Empire (“Pathway” network)
-North Shore-LIJ (“CareConnect” network)
-United HealthCare (“Compass” network)
-EmblemHealth (“Select Care” network)
-Fidelis Care
-Healthfirst
-Affinity Health Plan

Individuals who have already enrolled in coverage for 2014 still have 30 days (as of this writing) to change plans before the 2014 open enrollment season comes to a close on 3/15/2014.
